Heartwood Park
Location: Omaha, Nebraska Project Type: Privately Owned Public Park Client: Applied Underwriters
Heartwood Park is a public park inspired by the rolling prairies and agricultural history of Nebraska. Part of a 500-acre Landscape Masterplan, also by MSLA, this park will include an outdoor amphitheater, picnic areas, sports fields, playgrounds and an occupiable stormwater detention landscape. In response to recent and severe regional flooding, a newly formed riparian landscape detains flood water, and reduces peak runoff into the nearby Papio Creek Watershed. Anchoring a new urban neighborhood and commercial district, the design offers a unique landscape model for the city of Omaha – one that is vibrant, universally accessible, and functions as both civic space and flooding infrastructure.
