The new Science Building, Arts Center and Library was composed to naturally terrace with the sloping foothills. Linked together by grand staircases, terraces, and belvederes, the new Academic Core takes advantage of vistas to the western horizon and provides social gathering spaces dedicated to the various academic surrounds. The landscape materials are simple, sustainable, and native. A stylized meadow visually connects the campus heart with the undulating foothills to the east. Coastal live oaks drift through the meadow and creep across the paved terraces, providing shade and a place to gather at the entries to each building.
